BalsamWest FiberNet is dedicated to providingits customers with the best possible internet and voice services. We also feel that one of the most unmitigated risks in the region is the lack of resiliency and diversity from other ISPs. To address this need and set us apart, BalsamWest is proud to announce major upgrades to our network infrastructure, providing increased capacity, reduced single points of failure, and ultimately greater resiliency for our customers.
Over the past year BalsamWest has been working closely with Little T Broadband and Macon County on
a project to extend fiber communications south of Franklin, NC along US Hwy 441. There were two
phases to this project, getting fiber built to the Otto Community Center/Fire Department, and from
there partnering with Haywood Electric Membership Cooperative to connect fiber to Scaly Mountain
Fire Department and Community Center. We have diligently been working on this partnership and are
happy to announce the route is now complete and ready for service.
BalsamWest has made several investments in fixed wireless spectrum, equipment, network elements, personnel, and completed an acquisition of Swain and Graham ISP, Skywave. These investments will lead to faster speeds, greater coverage, and expanded operations.
BalsamWest recently completed the implementation of a new photonic, coherent optical transport system from Ciena. This upgrade allows BalsamWest to modernize its network, bring much needed bandwidth to underserved areas and meet customers’ growing connectivity demands driven by remote work and learning applications, cloud computing and video streaming.
