The mission of BalsamWest is to provide open and direct access to advanced telecommunications infrastructure in Western North Carolina, North Georgia and Eastern Tennessee at prices and quality levels enjoyed in major metropolitan areas of the U.S.

Our founding members; Drake Enterprises and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Nation have invested the necessary resources to provide open access to Next Generation Carrier Grade infrastructure in the region. The founding Members were brought together by the visionary efforts of Dr. Groves of Southwestern Community College (SCC) and SCC's previous work in the Appalachian Access study that identified the issues that needed to be addressed to provide a reliable ultra broadband service to the region.

Headquartered in Sylva, North Carolina, BalsamWest is primarily a Wholesale Carriers Carrier rapidly expanding a first class fiber optic network in the Appalachian region and the surrounding area.

BalsamWest will improve telecommunications reliability, lower costs of connectivity and improve economic development. BWFN is a leader advancing knowledge based companies, applications and technology throughout the Appalachian Region.
